Giving Opportunities

Lindsay Oaks Microbiology Training Fund

Dr. Lindsay OaksDr. Lindsay Oaks, a microbiologist and researcher at the college, died January 15, 2011 after being diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine tumor the previous November.

Dr. Oaks was a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology & Pathology since 1991. He achieved specialty diplomat status in the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists, and was elected by colleagues to serve on the board of governors for that specialty. He was a highly respected colleague and leader in his specialty organization, the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, and served on the editorial board of the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation. He was much beloved by his students and it was in the classroom that he felt he could contribute most to a profession that had given him so much.

His passions were fishing and falconry.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts by the DVM Class of 2013 and numerous donations from family and friends, the college dedicated a bench and plaque in Dr. J. Lindsay Oaks’ memory on October 14, 2011. Dr Oaks' memorial is under the row of oak trees on Ott Road below (North of) the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Donations to the Lindsay Oaks Microbiology Training Fund support residency and graduate programs. The distributions from this fund shall be used to provide off-campus training opportunities (externships) for students enrolled in the Post-DVM Microbiology Training Program.
